As a result of the City Beautiful Movement, many parks were built both in the city and the surrounding area including Wildwood, Riverside, and Cameron parks. These parks and others improved Harrisburg's beauty and communal identity. Large and clean public areas brought Harrisburg citizens closer together by enabling meetings and gatherings. The addition of playgrounds and picnic areas also helped bring a more lively social atmosphere to the city. These public grounds allowed for all families to have a clean and beautiful area where they could enjoy the outdoors in a pleasant atmosphere. The increasing of forestation and agricultural work also added natural beauty to the city as well a sense of environmental responsibility. The City Beautiful Movement created a culture of constant advancement.
